Sometimes when love is thought to have been found,
but feelings that you have are not returned,
then buried deep are ashes in the ground.
The remnants of a heart so badly burned.

When first we met, you thrilled me with your touch,
you kissed me like I meant so much to you.
But little did I know, it was just lust,
and it was only my love that was true.

My heart opened a door and you stepped in,
perhaps I was mistaken or unclear.
You told me that you loved me from the start,
now all that's left is wasted time, I fear.

Your breath upon my cheek, with your goodbye,
rekindled all the moments that we shared.
Left now, are bitter tears of my regret,
just knowing that you never really cared.

I think that you should know you broke my heart,
just scars are left, from cuts you made so deep.
Want you to take this with you when you go,
to haunt your dreams each time you try to sleep.

Eternally my heart is now at rest,
where broken hearts go when they cease to beat.
A face of stone is what I now will wear,
in case some time in life we chance to meet.

I hope someday that you will understand,
when playing games that mock love and desire,
it might be your heart someday that's in ashes,
and buried deep when burned upon the fire.
