Demons Defy

by Boogienights

They talked in whispers, so subdued,
as if someone could hear.
The plan they made, so grand in size,
soon, would be put in gear.

Hot fire 'neath a demons kiss,
as they both sealed the deal.
They wondered when the deed was done,
just how great they would feel.

Their goal? Collect a thousand souls,
to beg, borrow, or steal.
For that was what their quota was,
it was a quite  big deal.

So by the slyest means they made,
their promises of gold.
Success, fame, money, all for those,
whose mortal souls were sold.

Just halfway to their goal they were,
when one whose heart had changed,
decided he'd had quite enough,
more souls he'd not defame.

He touched his fellow demon's heart,
and both of them agreed,
that they would stop no matter what,
this awful hellish deed.

Of course, the Devil was incensed,
his demons had refused.
Punishment so swift and harsh,
he'd deal to those accused.

The demons stood there resolute,
their minds he couldn't change.
The Devil was enraged by this,
civility he feigned.

"Now let's be fair," the Devil said,
"I thought we had a deal,
and you should carry through with it,
no matter how you feel."

So silently they crept away,
when Satan's head was turned.
Then they hid amongst the brimstone,
with no fear of being burned.

The demons had cooked up a plan,
a scheme in which to fool,
the Devil into backing down,
by breaking his own rule.

Rule one, DO NOT CROSS SATAN,
FOLLOW COMMANDS, that was rule two.
MAKE SURE TO KEEP HELL'S SECRET'S,
was number three, both of them knew.

The biggest rule the Devil had,
was curiosity,
would kill much more than kitty cats,
now wouldn't you agree?

BEWARE OF DEMONS LEAVING GIFTS,
he had no trust at all.
Don't open up strange parcels,
you might be headed for a fall.

The demons took a heavy chest,
that had an iron lock.
The thickset chains would hold it fast,
they placed it on a rock.

The demons taped a sign to it,
that said, 500 SOULS,
then waited until Satan came,
he was out on patrol.

The Devil saw the sign and, YES,
he just could not resist.
He lifted up the wooden lid,
and now here comes the twist.

Five hundred souls were not within,
the demons fast ran up,
and pushed the Devil in the chest,
and watched fire erupt.

They quickly locked the Devil in,
and threw away the key.
Then thanked Pandora for her box,
and got away scot free.

They work now at a used car lot,
well suited for their jobs.
Both sell beaters to the fools,
who don't know they've been robbed.

Days later, Satan did escape,
and vengeance he did seek.
But those two demons were long gone,
the Devil felt so bleak.

They say the Devil's essence stayed,
within Pandora's box.
And if you find and open it,
you'll be cursed with the pox.

Don't open up Pandora's box,
no matter what you do.
But if you pick that iron lock,
well, then I pity you.
