Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
Hidden hope grows silently in darkness

Starkness

by Liz O'Neill

Tangled, knotted, in stark bleakness of ice and snow
Longing for warmth and green
Longing for signs of life

Doubt, branches out
Twisting in all directions
Longing for gentleness in this harsh caress

Yet I stand against all forces
Tearing at me and trying to break me
So many stories

So many years
Reaching around into the cold darkness
Finding solitary emptiness

Ever so slowly
Newness emerges from weariness
Another chance

Recognized

I was studying a tree that looked dead in the cold grayness. In the spring it was full of green leaves. I was overjoyed.
