Paradise Lost

by Boogienights

The Garden of Eden Contest Winner
In the place, where all things began,
God made a garden, then a man.
It's there that Adam started life,
he soon was joined by Eve, his wife.

The Garden of Eden, its name,
a paradise, no guilt or shame.
The both of them naked and free,
lived peacefully in harmony.

Let's walk together and we'll try,
to see it all in our minds eye.
A wonder from the start of time,
that God created so sublime.

Imagine how it must have looked,
clear rivers, waterfalls, and brooks.
Tree branches bent, heavy with fruit,
seeds God had planted,  taken root.

Green palm trees with their fronds spread wide,
a quiet place to sit beside.
The Earth, so soft, was feather light.
Two innocents slept there at night.

The animals would freely roam,
lived peacefully in their new home.
While the first two, children of Earth,
joyfully reveled in life's worth.

The sky above intensely blue,
colorful birds above them flew.
And every flower known to be,
on rolling hills grew wild and free.

Peaches, pears, and apple trees,
drank gentle rains, swayed in the breeze.
Yet, within danger was hidden,
one tree there, by God forbidden.

The Tree of Knowlege, Good and Evil,
would cause both, a great upheaval.
For then their eyes would open be
to shame and sin, no longer free.

The Devil in a serpent's guise,
beguiled Eve with all his lies.
So of the apples they partook,
the innocence from them, he took.

God's paradise was lost to them,
life never was the same again.
Expelled they were and life was hard,
a lesson learned, so be on guard.

Be wary of the Devil's ways,
he'll try to trick you all your days.
But trust in God to see you through,
he's there to keep you safe that's true.
