Music of the 60s

by Boogienights

Music can soothe the soul,
it can be an absolution.
It can lead to change,
it can start a revolution.

It can cause you to feel deeply,
make you angry, happy, sad.
To me, I've never heard
of any music that was bad.

When I was a kid in the 60s,
the British Beatles were in charge.
They took the U.S.A by storm,
their mop tops looming large.

They were really awesome,
but The Monkees were for me.
Those four crazy, quirky guys,
were young, wild and free.

Their theme song lyrics proclaimed,
"We've got something to say!"
That was a relatable anthem
during those tumultuous days.

I was a kid but I could feel
a change was in the air.
The decade of the 60s,
all ideas challenged and dared.

Some Monkees songs, were quite deep
and other lots of fun.
For many the band changed the world,
when all is said and done.

And they made me so happy,
isn't that what life's about?
When I hear their songs today,
it brings me back no doubt...

To hippie culture, bell bottoms,
civil rights, and war unrest.
The generation gap, no longer
"Father knowing best."

There was much music to chose from,
rhythm, pop, rock, blues, and soul.
Elvis Presley was still the King,
When on stage he took control.

There's too much music to mention,
though The Monkees were the best.
They helped me through my childhood,
and times of social unrest.
