Penny's Sidewalk Sale Day

by Boogienights

Poem For A Child Contest Winner
Penny Penelope Applebee
lives with her parents in a house by the sea.
Today the whole town was having a sale,
as they always did,  each year without fail.
All the shops would put out things that people could buy
on the sidewalk, and there would be treats you could try.
There'd be popcorn, hotdogs, and ice cream too,
Penny was excited about the things they would do.

Penny Penelope Applebee
was happy to go with her parents and see
all of the items the shops would put out.
Amazing things too, Penny had no doubt.
From a local band lively music would play,
there would be an art show, and a cool giveaway.
Her family got ready and away they went,
at the sidewalk sale their whole day was spent.
There were tables set up with awnings overhead,
in case sunny skies turned to rain clouds instead.
There were clothes, toys, books, every shop had a table.
With great things to buy, that is, if you were able.

Penny Penelope Applebee
visited every table and she could see,
a cute necklace with a tiny blue stone.
It was something that Penny wished she could own.
Penny had money saved but she couldn't afford,
that beautiful chain and blue stone she adored.
But Penny had ice cream, the music was great,
her family had lots of fun, no debate!

Penny Penelope Applebee,
had fun that day with her family.
At the end of the day when it came time to leave,
mom smiled like she had a surprise up her sleeve.
They all sat down on a bench by the rocks,
then mom reached in her pocket for a little white box.
Inside was the chain with the little blue stone,
she bought it for Penny to have as her own.
Penny just couldn't believe her eyes,
as her dad smiled and said, "Try it on for size."

Penny Penelope Applebee
was as happy as any girl could be.
Not just because of the chain with the little blue stone,
the one that she wished for and now was her own.
But because she had the best mom and dad,
that any lucky little girl ever had.
Back home, tired Penny fell asleep right away,
the end of a perfect sidewalk sale day.
