Check Out

Temptation Poetry Contest Winner

Check-out counters have me in mind,

I'm tempted with items of every kind;

little books promise to help me make money,

or show me how to brew whiskey from honey.

Maybe a comb set, although I've no hair;

happiness pills to end my despair;

candy bars, crackers, sodas to drink,

wrist bands to help me punt, pass, and think.

All these temptations ,

lure away my finances;

I'll check out with blinders,

so as not to take chances.
