Back to Work

by Bill Schott

Workplace Consternation Contest Winner

Retired twice,
but home's a bore;
thought I'd get a job
in a grocery store.

My manager's nineteen,
and a bit of a jerk,
but no one else
ever shows up for work.

I show up alert,
smiling and punctual;
some others drag in,
all quite dysfunctional.

I guess I'll stay on,
 they're promoting me;
I'm the new manager --
the old one's VP.

Writing Prompt
Write a rhyming poem about how work can make you wonder what in the world is going on.

Try to keep it short and to the point, but make it light-hearted.
