Mrs. Shakespeare

by DragonSkulls

I poured us each a single glass of wine.
He toiled all day to pen another work.
I knew again the piece would touch mine heart,
a serenade dear William wrote for me.

His words so often sparked a deep desire.
I closed mine eyes to hear his tender voice.
Anticipating rhymes so true throughout,
he took mine hand and started to recite.

"Dost thou still dream of love divine within?
Will passion always be forever sought?
Let mine own heart assure the sacred bond
we share that very few shall ever find."

With furrowed brow, I looked into his eyes.
The stanza he regaled I found amiss.
"Are words you speak a ruse in mocking jest,
to toy with mine emotions absent rhyme?"

"Mine precious wife, intent was not to tease.
It's form by Henry Howard I expound.
Blank verse will soon enhance the center stage.
Doth not this poem set your needs aflame?"

"Desire wanes when verse is void of rhyme.
It sounds inane and causes ebbing lust."
He chose an older sonnet in attempt.
I placed my finger on his lips to stop.

He drew me close to softly kiss mine neck.
"I'm sorry, dear, mine head doth pound with ache."
