What could go wrong?

After a happy day swimming and playing on the beach near their holiday house, Maria hosed the sand off the children and sent them inside to play while she hosed herself as well.

What could go wrong?

Within a few minutes she heard the sound of glass breaking – and much screaming.

Anna and Bella had convinced their toddler brother to "play trampolines" on the bed. Higher and higher they bounced, until Dan flew off backwards, through the plate glass door.

Stitches in his head – after the glass fragments were removed. Anna and Bella were very distressed at causing their little brother such pain. They had broken the "No bouncing on beds!" rule.

A couple of years later at a different holiday house, Anna and Bella thought of a fun game to play. It was called "Escape from a burning building" - Anna and Bella would be the rescuers. Dan was to escape by jumping from the top bunk into the doona, which the girls would hold at the corners.

What could go wrong?

Needless to say, his weight and speed caused them to drop the corners and he smashed into the floor. Anna and Bella screamed. Stitches in Dan's knees. Anna and Bella were very distressed at causing their brother such pain.

When Dan was eighteen they all went grass-carting in the nearby hills with a group of friends. Dan excelled at the activity. The girls kept to the beginners' slopes, but cheered Dan on, and he progressed rapidly to the steeper hills.

"Go for the steepest one!" they encouraged him. It was almost time to go home.

"Okay, the last will be the best!" he responded.

What could go wrong?

He flew down the hillside, faster and faster. Catastrophe struck. He bounced on a small stone and stacked his toboggan.

Dan lay at the bottom of the hill, immobile, unconscious. Anna and Bella raced down the hillside, screaming. Others called the ambulance.

He was taken to hospital for scans and checks. Nothing broken. Concussion. Anna and Bella were very distressed at causing their brother such pain.

Dan's twenty-first birthday arrived. He had safely made it to adulthood. Anna and Bella put in together for a special birthday gift.

A voucher for a tandem sky-diving experience. He looked at them in horror.

What could possibly go wrong?
