Rubber Duckie

by Barry Penfold

Newbie Flash Fiction Contest Winner
The bath toys were corralled in a blue plastic box. Brian had paid scant attention to them for years. That was until today.

A yellow rubber duckie, looking cool with dark sunglasses, compelled him to lean over and squeeze.

A sharp squeak greeted him and he surprised himself as he began singing the words

"Rubber duckie you`re the one. You make bath times lots of fun. Rubber duckie I am awfully fond of you."

He smiled but at the same time felt the tears welling in his eyes.

He cried, "Rest in Peace, my darling daughter, you`re still the one."
