Death of a family pet.

Goodbye Cleo

by LisaMay

The author has placed a warning on this post for violence.

I read a short piece in the news today.
It caused distress, such sad dismay.
I’ll tell you now of this family pet –
a wicked tale I will never forget.

What is it, whether by gun or knife,
that makes a person cause such strife?
To inflict this horror in dead of night…
it’ll be too much, it will cause you fright.

So don’t read on, for the tale is sad.
It’ll make blood boil – it’ll drive you mad.
Such people out there who cause dire pain,
they’re a blot on humans; they cause a stain.

Young Cleo the goat was loved by all,
except the person who caused her befall.
It’s now too late; through murdererous hate
this poor animal he did desecrate.

The life of Cleo was snuffed, now she’s dead;
her body was dumped behind a shed.
She lived to love, she was a pet,
but her heartless killer had no regret.

What can I say? The image is grim –
her cute trophy head cut off on a whim.
For what? For why? It made me cry –
innocent Cleo, too young to die.

And I cried, too, for the man or boy
who thought her death could bring him joy.
So warped, so cruel, what had gone wrong?
Had he never heard a tender heart’s song?

We need much more love to go around,
so scenes like this will never be found.
Give love to a child, or they will grow wild.
Spread loving respect, on Jesus styled.

Unfortunately, this is a true story. This terrible act was committed recently and sent shock waves through our community. It indicates a cruel mind totally lacking in compassion. Cleo was obviously a family pet. Whether her death happened as a way to punish the family who owned her for some perceived slight, or whether it was because a hunter wanted a trophy, it was a shocking end for Cleo's young life.
