Barbaric Vanity

Wild creatures untamed;
once lost, they’re never regained.
You should be ashamed.

Every year trophy hunters kill thousands of exotic wild animals throughout the world, especially in Africa. Combined with poaching, this poses a serious threat to the survival of endangered species.
Animals are also bred in captivity for the sole purpose of being hunted by tourists who are willing to pay the high price tag. In my opinion, these canned hunts are for immoral cowards with too much money and a desire to inflate their self-esteem. There is nothing brave or noble about killing exotic animals for sport.
To claim that hunting is similar to what natural predators do by keeping populations strong and healthy is at odds with Darwin's 'survival of the fittest' principle. In the wild, predators seek out prey that are the weakest, whereas trophy hunters target the biggest and fittest animals. To kill healthy animals, particularly endangered or threatened species, is the very antithesis of conservation.
Such activity is a perverse pursuit, and has no place in a civilized society. It is a barbaric vanity.
Around 80% of all trophy hunters worldwide are Americans; in 2017 alone, 650,000 animal 'trophies' were imported into the U.S.
