Mother's Day

by Bill Schott

My mother's mother's mother was barely known to me;
an infant at her parting, her life was history.

The mom who was my grandma, had red hair like a flame;
although a lifetime Girl Scout, was well-known as a dame.

Dear Mom, first known as Mommy, was always sweet and mild;
I was her favorite kid, of course, her sixth and final child.

I had a first wife once, who bore my oldest son;
she is still his mother, though nuptials are done.

My wife of thirty-six years, had two kids of her own;
All three children love her so; to her they're flesh and bone.

I send this up for Mother's Day; she's cherished by us all,
but she's not here to proof-read, so I hope I make it rhyme.
