A sad existence...

In the life

The author has placed a warning on this post for sexual content.
She walks the street for money,
it's just what she must do.
She stands beneath a streetlight,
sticks some cash into her shoe.

She wanted to be so much more,
to find a new vocation.
she's been there since age sixteen,
she lacks an education.

Its pay for play, in her world,
on her sidewalk spot, she'll stand.
She watches an errant spider
as it crawls across her hand.

She flicks it in a puddle
of some water at her feet.
From a hydrant opened up
by kids, to beat the heat.

Customers will always come,
sometimes the men just watch
while she does a slow dance
and bares her naked crotch.

She works all night from sunset,
she goes to sleep at dawn.
In survival's wicked game,
she's just another pawn.

Dreams she has, they still exist,
but in this life, she's mired.
Years have passed, she's growing old,
she just feels sick and tired.

She'd like to try something else,
but time won't give her time.
For she must earn her daily keep
on streets awash with grime.

She hides her tears in shadows
and shuts her mind off too.
She stands beneath the streetlight,
sticks some cash into her shoe.
