Sharing A Moment

by LisaMay

As I sat sadly in my yard
wond’ring why my life was so darn hard,
I watched a beetle battle to its feet.
It flipped over again, and again, repeat.

I bent a stem of grass to let him pass
(or her, or they, or it — it matters not a bit).
The only matter is that I did care
to help that beetle get to where
it wanted to go, however slow
and steady was its pace.
When we help another, we gain grace.

Why didn’t it fly away without delay?
I do not know, I cannot say;
I just knew it had lost its way…
or was it a lesson I should learn today?

As I sat gladly in my yard
watching nature with grateful regard,
I helped a beetle battle to its feet.
For a moment, for both of us, life was sweet.
