Talking about FanStory

by Terry Broxson

"Hello, Terry; how was your day?"

"It was good; how was yours?"

"Better now, I got a glass of wine, and it is pleasant here on the deck. What did you do today?"

"I have been editing the new story I am going to post tomorrow. I think it is going to be good."

"What is it about?"

"My aunt's daughter was stolen from her when the daughter was six. It was 1946. They didn't see each other for forty years."

"Wow!"

"I am doing a little different format for this one. It is sort of an interview conversation with the aunt and daughter sixty years after the abduction."

"Does it have dialogue?"

"Lots of dialogue."

"I think your stories have more depth when you write dialogue."

"We will see. Did you see that Hump won the story of the month again?"

"I did. He is terrific."

"Ric was second, and Gman was close. Those three guys can really write great fiction."

"Yes, they can. But it would be nice to see maybe a commentary writer getting the award sometime."

"Oh, I know who you are thinking about, Ms. Commentary Writer!"

"It doesn't have to be me. There are a lot of great commentary writers. It could also be a nonfiction writer. Maybe you."

"Or you, Ms. Nonfiction Writer."

"How were your reviews today?"

"Interesting, I got a six for one story and a three for a different story from the same reviewer. The three was for a story in a blind contest. She didn't realize her next review was for the same writer."

"That seems pretty unusual."

"She is new to FanStory. She has only been a member for a few weeks and had one poem posted. I replied if she gives the work a three, she needs to tell me what she thought was wrong."

"But I guess you thought she had good taste on the one she rated six!"

"Absolutely! She must be smart, and she just needs a little guidance!"

"What is your next project?"

"Do You remember those FanStory interviews I did a few months ago?"

"Sure, they were great."

"I think it would be interesting if I could get Hump, Ric, and Gman for an interview about fiction writing. I would love to know how they approach their work, develop their characters, dialogues, story ideas, and more."

"They might do it."

"I will think about it. What about you? What are you working on?"

"I have several ideas and a lot of things I want to say. I need the time to sit down and do it."

"Well, sell that business and retire, and you got all the time there is to be had."

"I am trying."

"Well, look, my glass is empty and needs a refill. I will talk to you tomorrow."

"I enjoyed it."

"Me too, as always."
