I Hold You Still
by Bill Schott
Is this where we will die, my dear?
Beside the road?
Within a car?
Beneath the snow?
Can such a random accident
be our demise,
when roads were slick;
few drivers out?
Will we be missed
as days go by,
as life goes on,
after we’re gone?
This is where you died, my dear.
You couldn’t stay.
I held you close.
I hold you still.
I will stay with you, my dear.
I cannot not leave;
could never leave,
and leave you here.
