When I hear of such horrid things -

As hatred with its bitter stings

Or cruelty, vile and without reason

And greed and theft, even in this season -

                    #

I wrestle greatly with my thoughts

For most don’t go before the courts

Yet justice will come; such people will be

Judged and punished eventually.

                    #

But I do get angry, upset and mad

For those who are abused or used, or sad

Often they’re rejected, have no voice

These ones are bereft, without a choice.

                    #

Why strike at weaker ones who can’t defend

Can’t respond, and will never mend

From acts of bullying, terror, or spite?

Their lives are just one dreadful blight.

                   #

Neglected animals too, with love never offered

Are left to starve, no care ever proffered

Such issues as these cause me to feel

Angry inside, with such distress I can’t deal.

                    #

Helpless I feel, too small and too weak

To make a difference, yet I must speak,

Stand up for right, even if I’m alone - 

And take on the bullies, not sit back and moan.
