Romance Its Winter Rainbow

by John Ciarmello

                                ~ Where ~

hues of dawn mock the icy shrouds of darkness, and

snowflakes squall in mistral gales—appeased—sunlit—glistened in vaporous singularity.

Raised—man's bordering eyes romance its winter rainbow.

                                ~ Where ~

blankets of endless white– bequeathed and untraversed

collect the vastitude beneath its painted dome, and whirling crystals

pack   the   sunken snowprints of the wild, vindicating the land's pure antiquity.

                                 ~Where ~

unwritten scrolls of monocracy reveal a single haunting howl.

Her hunt, her covert kill. It–capsulated in the interim from the eyes of man.

Unstirred, earth hides beneath her purest of seconds and moments.

                                 ~Where ~

tethered ledges of black granite remain detached from his ropes of subjugation.

His spikes of countenance;

and the dulcet tones of darkest night parrot in shadowed peaks of day.

                                    ~Where~

boots will finally step–out of curiosity–or lack of resource.

His Timberland print thus blackens the virgin white of snow. And now—the beast is still.

Its belly poised on the icy hues of distant lakes—awaiting man’s premier.

                                    ~Where~

its vastitude now lessened to doctored timber with shingled peaks, and the blankets of endless white bequeathed, and untraversed are furrowed mounds of stippled snow. City’s glare–smells of rank—the parroted sounds of nights shadowed peeks have long ago receded.

                                    ~Where~

his eyes once again—

romance its winter rainbow.

The earth was wild before modern man, before we had the inkling to commercialize what wasn't ours. Now, we fear the beast when it dares to step while we dare to take more and dare to give little back. I hope you enjoy my far and few between poetry. Love you all!
