Ode to Poe

"The Fall of the House of Usher", 
thrilled us all when dripped from Poe's pen.
The first poem I read was Annabel Lee,
been enthralled by Poe ever since then.
 
Poems and short stories of horror,
imagination beyond all compare.
This writer, quite skilled, kept me up all night,
"The Tell-Tale Heart", always caused me a scare.
 
I've read all his poems and his stories,
my favorite, learned by heart, is The Raven.
This author who started me on the "write" path,
about Edgar Allan Poe I'm now raving.
 
His death, at age forty, mysterious.
Alcohol? Drugs? No one can agree.
The treasure of writing that he left behind,
was his legacy, left for you and me.
