Revenge driven hatred

I'm the Beast in Your Nightmares

How callous you were.
Evicting me from your life.
With cruel intent.
Did I mean nothing to you?
A meaningless encounter?

Wasted Time, Life, Love
Once the center of your world.
Emptiness fills me.
No longer Loved and Adored.
Unwanted and Discarded.

Broken. Twisted. Wrong.
My world shattered to pieces,
While yours remained strong.
Fire rages from deep within,
Creating a Vile Monster.

Thinking of revenge,
I no longer crave your touch,
Only your demise.
I'm coming, you best beware.
I'm the beast in your nightmares.

Tanka Poetry Contest contest entry


I only intended to do one stanza, but it kept not feeling finished. So I continued sticking to the format, but it was still not finished. I had to take breaks and come back a few times before I finally felt closer. It was a challenge and fun. I hope you enjoy it.
