A Strange Dream

by jaybird1

In my dream I arrived in Heaven
standing near that fabled gate,
watching God surveying sinners
and determining their fate.

First, he bade a Hindu enter,
next, a Muslim, then a Jew.
When my turn came I was praying,
Lord, dear Lord, please pass me through.

My native Indian friend oft said
on these matters take no heed.
On nature's trail our Gods prevail
and that is all you will need.

At this moment I awakened,
tearful, trembling, torn with fright;
Never knowing, only hoping
to be favoured in Gods sight.

Lying in my bed I pondered
what this message held for me.
Does God judge us earthly mortals
by works and morality?
