An ugly duckling story of the plant world
Yellow Ballerina
by Heather Knight
I was small and brown. I was round like an onion. Nobody would have said I was beautiful, but I didn't worry because I knew I would shine one day.
They buried me in the ground and even though it was claustrophobic, I did not scream. I had to be patient. Wait a while longer.
I finally started escaping my earthen prison. I sprouted green limbs and danced in the sun.
And then one perfect day, I was finally crowned in wonderfully bright yellow.
'Mum! Come! There's a daffodil in the garden,' a little voice said.
And I was happy.
