Today was no different than any other day. I was just so tired today more so than any other day. Well, maybe taking a quick nap I told myself just might perk me up. I had been feeling under the weather lately just didn't feel much like doing a damn thing. I had been under a lot of strain lately and pushed myself to keep going.
I decided instead to try to read out on the sun deck down by the lake. Well, that was going all well and fine till I woke up to the fact I had fallen asleep in the middle of reading my book. So much for that idea, I got up and went to my room and laid down for awhile. Drifting off to sleep I found myself dreaming. I was hearing someone calling my name. I could barely hear them off in the distance.
I woke with a start. Startled to find my phone on speaker, the phone lying under my pillow and my folks asking what was wrong with me on the phone.
I was no longer dreaming it was real! It really was my folks on the phone. I looked at the clock on my nightstand it said two am. No wonder they were distraught by my call. I must have dialed it while asleep. I grabbed the phone and told them what had happened and to forgive me. I had never done anything like that in my life.
Dad asked me, " What's the matter kitten? You seem out of sorts, that's not like you. You sure you are feeling okay?"
"No, I don't actually," I told him. " I guess, I let myself get run down, I am always forgetting to eat. I promise to get a check up soon. In the meantime, I will get off the phone so you all can get back to sleep. "
The next day I made an appointment to see the doctor to keep my promise to my dad. The doctor asked, "What's with you having problems?"
"I guess my dad called you to check up on me," I implied. Searching his face for him to admit to it.
"No, we had lunch together and he just mentioned he was worried about you."
I said,"That's my dad for yeah."
"Okay, let's take a look at you and see what's the matter." The doctor said.
"You are anemic, you've lost too much weight since I seen you last. You have to start eating or you will end up in the hospital. You have a touch of walking pneumonia. I will give you a script for antibiotics and you drink plenty of fluids. Get plenty of rest and quit pushing yourself to the limit."
"I promise doc, I will really try. Only time waits for no one." I said.
Leaving the doctor's office I headed for the Pharmacy and got my pills filled, picked up some apple juice, some soup to fix when I got home. Upon reaching home I called my mom to let her know that I did go to the doctors and to relay the message to dad when he got home from work.
I was glad dad was able to go back to work after being released from his own doctor after getting over his heart attack. He was to take it slow not getting himself worked up over things he couldn't control. I kind of chuckled to myself, yep, I took after my dad in the stubborn department just ask anyone.
My mom was a kind and thoughtful person, she'd give you her last penny if she thought you were down and out. Always taking in strays human and non-human if they were needing a place to stay to get back on their feet. Dad was always fussing at her that she couldn't save the world.
I once told dad if it made her happy what did it hurt to feed an extra mouth or two. He said," I am not made of money."
To prove his point he took my allowance away for two weeks and I was the one who had to do without. I was only a kid back then but I never said another word about what went on between him and mom. I had learned my lesson well.
I went home and fixed my soup and took my medicine and slept like I hadn't slept in awhile. I was back to my old self in less than a week. I was back to work with a vengeance to get caught up and get back to normal, whatever that was.
I had bills to pay and places to get too over the next few months I couldn't let being out sick stand in my way. I would have enough money to buy the land over the summer next to mine and start a home for rescue horses.
