My Best Friend Teddy

by Boogienights

My Teddy has been a friend to me,
since I was about the age of three.
He made me feel safe through scary nights,
when creaking closet doors,
and rattling windows,
created such frights.

He shared my secret thoughts and dreams,
I trusted him like no other.
No matter what I put him through,
no protest did he utter.

Together we would conquer worlds,
build forts in the yard and climb up in trees.
So many wonderful adventures I had,
happened with Teddy next to me.

And as I grew he was always there,
I never got too old,
to talk to him about my life,
and have him there to hold.

Nowadays he's somewhat worse for wear,
his fur is matted, in places rubbed bare.
His ears are frayed and he's missing a button eye,
his color is faded, though I'm not sure why.
It was probably that sunny spot on my bed,
where every night I would carefully place Ted.

Teddy was presented to me,
one long ago Christmas day,
I took one look and wasn't impressed,
I had wanted a dog that day.

But looking back I realize,
that my teddy bear to me,
had become my very best friend,
as silly as that may be.

I'm proud to say that Teddy still sits,
in his sunny spot on that bed.
Next to my peacefully sleeping son,
Who now has adventures with Ted.
