A Letter To My Mom

Mom,

Do you recall when I was small, not more then the age of five?
We would sit in the window, look down at the street, at people passing by.
We would eat crackers and margarine, drink hot tea in chipped china cups. Classical records you always would play, the music would lift me up.
I miss those times when I was five.
I remember the books that we checked out, from the library down the street. We would go to the Goodwill, Woolworths too, we always got something to eat. Sometimes we'd have to run to catch our bus that just went by, we'd climb on board and catch our breath.
I miss those times when I was five.
I miss your cucumber sandwiches sliced thin and carefully cut in little triangles, perfect bite size, we quickly ate them up. I remember how pretty you fixed your hair, by the dressing table light. Soft brown curls around your shoulders fell, it always looked just right. You were the most perfect mom in my eyes.
I miss those times when I was five.
I miss how you would hold me the times when I would cry. I remember how you went to work each day, it was hard to say goodbye. The thing I miss the most though, is the love you gave to me. You made me feel I was as special as any girl could ever be. If I could have one wish granted, it's that you could once more be alive.
So we could relive those times again, when I was only five.
I know that you can feel me, see me from above, that you know how much I miss you and your unconditional love. So I'm sending you this message, a sentiment that's true. No matter how much time goes by, I'll always still miss you.
