A Double Nonet

Seahorse Romance

by June Sargent

Animal Nonet Contest Contest Winner
Courtship begins with the dance of love
amidst the feathery sea fans.
From morn 'til night they tango,
forging a bond for life.
When eggs are ready
Mom will lay them
deep inside
his pouch -
Done!

Now
it's time
for Mom to
relax and dream
atop the coral
while Dad, the nursemaid, feeds
and protects her precious eggs.
When hatchlings make their grand debut -
the dance begins all over again!
