Finding Your Roots

by June Sargent

Funny poem about your job Contest Winner
A butcher, a baker, a candlestick maker -
who lurks in your family tree -
a genuine prince or just a faker,
a royal wannabe?
You have in your head the quirky notion
your people sailed on a boat,
the Mayflower that crossed the deep, blue ocean
carrying families of note.
And when I find the ugly truth -
you cringe in disbelief
at ancestor who's so uncouth -
no prince, but plain horse thief!
