Knitting not for me

Quality Time With Mom

by Boogienights

When I was just a child,
mom thought the world of me.
She gave me such great values,
showed me the person I could be.
She taught me art and music ,
I loved every minute of it!
Until the day my mother tried
to teach me how to knit!
If ever there was something
I wasn't meant to learn,
(besides making cookies which I almost always burned)
A knitter topped the list of things
I wasn't meant to be.
(Along with being a math and science wiz, both subjects eluded me)
But my mama wanted me
to knit and also to crochet.
I wanted to please and emulate her,
so I smiled and said "okay".
We sat together on the couch
and this she gave to me,
Two gleaming knitting needles,
brand new and so shiny.
She also got some skeins of yarn,
at the neighborhood Woolworths.
They were all in my favorite colors,
for all that it was worth.
She smiled all excited,
wrapped the yarn around the first.
Now over, under, twirl it around,
at this task I was the worst.
But I caught on, knit one, pearl two,
a shape began to form.
There were rows of neatly knitted yarn,
didn't feel quite so forlorn.
Hours passed by, my fingers ached.
But being with mom made the whole thing great!
Soon a sweater for my doll
was finally done,
Mom held it up to the light.
I'll never forget the look on her face,
How she laughed with sheer delight.
My carefully knitted doll sweater,
had not two sleeves but three!
"I didn't know you had a three armed doll!"
My mama said to me.
Then both of us laughed
'till we couldn't breath,
and mom said she was proud of me.
"But no more knitting or crochet, it's time that
you went out to play."
"Thanks for trying hard."
She said,
"It made me so happy."
And ever since that day,
no more knitting for me.
