A real picture of me holding my precious Dog Dog

Dog Dog

My favorite toy was a pillow,
I found lying on the ground.
One small tear, though very clean,
in the shape of a basset hound.

I fell in love immediately,
with it's big eyes and sad silly face.
In a corner of my bed,
was "Dog Dog's" special place.

He helped me through the bad dreams,
when night began to fall.
With Dog Dog lying next to me,
I had no fear at all.

My mom would wash him in the sink,
and hang him to drip dry.
A clothespin held him out of reach,
She hung him far too high.

Sometimes I wondered, being eight,
if I was a bit too old,
to be carrying around that pillow.
If I was nobody told.

I had board games, a barbie doll
and hot wheel cars to race.
But nothing made me as happy,
as putting my head on Dog Dog's face!

I kept him with me through the years,
then he started to fall apart.
No matter how torn up he was,
he always had my heart.

One day I put my toys away,
when a woman I became.
I didn't miss the hot wheels,
the barbie or the games.

But Dog Dog with his stuffing gone,
was all but lost to me.
I put him in a plastic bag,
I couldn't stand to see.

My favorite toy and companion,
was now beyond repair.
I have him still in plastic,
boxed up in a closet somewhere.

It's such a silly story,
but I'll bet you have one too.
About a special toy you had,
that meant the world to you.
