Moving out of a place because we were evicted

Domino Effect

by SLMorrical

I am a strong person. I believe I can handle anything. That was until today June 4, 2019, move-out day. Moving things into storage and out of the house was not only a reality check but a new trial and tribulation. I blame myself for the situation, and our hour of destitution. I attribute us not having a place to live anymore to yours truly.

The illness that put me in the hospital, and scared not only me but also my husband and sister, started the ripple of events to follow. I sometimes feel that if I had not survived both surgeries it would have been better then the final outcome. The outcome of losing a month and a half of work, which put every bill behind. This, of course, caused the domino effect; producing the succession of rent behind, utilities behind, and eventually the move-out.

Everyone tells me to stop condemning myself for an event beyond my control. I can't help it. This event had a cumulative effect on everything that shadowed it, and the succession of events that are still occurring as a succession of the parade down Maine Street. The only thing is the floats are not of happy times or storybook characters, but the nightmare of survival on a day to day basis. I'm presently living this traumatic event in my life, and wonder if I will ever wake up for this frightening dream this seems to be.

In October last year I became very ill. This was due to stress according to the doctor. I had to have two risky surgeries back to back. The surgeries put me out of work until the doctor said I could go back to work, which wasn't until the middle of November. By then I was out of work for a month and a half. My short term disability was a joke and my employer wouldn't let me take all the PTO I had left. This cause me to loose over $2,000.00 in pay. Of course then everything was behind including my rent. To make a long story short we did get the rent caught up, but the landlord wanted us out and we didn't have a signed lease. With no money saved and nowhere to go we moved everything we owned in to three storage units, and took the dogs and the cats and went into an extended stay place living day to day.
