A Rival For Your Love

by LisaMay

Your voice is honey –
so sweet to my ears.
The words you speak
can move me to tears.

Your eyes are blue –
from the depths of the ocean.
You gaze at me
with such tender emotion.

Your skin is warm –
pressed gently against mine,
as we closely entwine
in a love so divine.

Your touch is tantalising –
a tactile treasure.
Mmm… that’s nice;
you gift me pleasure.

But your dog’s a disgrace –
always licking his butt,
then drooling in my face.
Please keep the door shut!

Quatrain Poetry writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
A quatrain is a poem that has four lines for each stanza. It usually has rhyme scheme of abab or its variant, xbyb. Click here for an example.

Author's Note:
Rhyme scheme: the first 4 stanzas are abcb.
For impact, I changed the last stanza to abab.

This poem was inspired by my relationship with a wonderful man some years ago. He was the most romantic I had yet met, as well as caring and considerate - until I criticised his dog.
I am an animal-lover myself, and it speaks well of a man when he is fond of his dog, but I objected to sharing space during romantic moments with an attention-seeking, slobbering, hair-shedding, butt-licking mutt with bad breath.
The dog won. What a blow to my ego; I had thought I was better looking than the dog.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
