Small Town Girl

Bio Contest Winner

A small town girl in a Southern state
had a lonely childhood as her fate.
Without siblings with whom to relate,
there were few ideals to imitate.

I styled my journey as best I could,
aspiring to do the things I should.
With all the adults in my childhood,
I was accepted and understood.

I got married at only eighteen.
At doing housework, I wasn’t keen.
With him as king and me as his queen,
we settled into a nice routine

My joys are reading, writing, and art.
From these passions, I’ll never depart.
Dearer still, my family’s my heart.
Anything less would never be smart.

Love of God and country reign supreme.
A contented life’s my cherished dream.
My desires are few and not extreme.
“Staying the course” will be my main theme.
