This Is My Ode

The Generosity of the Thinking Man (or Woman): Managing, Sharing ...

I love to understand a piece
when all the words are read,
to comprehend the work in whole
from simply what they said.

Where depth and meaning are revealed
and easily obtained,
where I don't have to grasp what's meant
or have it be explained.

My ode today's for all of you
who don't need author notes,
when everything you had to say
was found in what you wrote.

The substance of the words you write
should clearly stand alone.
The concept's lost in pointless void
if they can't hold their own.

I can't just guess what's on your mind
or maybe I'm just dense.
I shouldn't need your author notes
to make some sort of sense.

Encyclopedic references
are vastly overdone
for when it's just a dumb haiku
or stupid one-six-one.

Now if your piece is just a post
use all the fancy tools
but if it's in a contest prompt
you're sadly bending rules.

Use author notes to clarify
is what I can't condone.
Your piece in its entirety
should make sense on its own.

So once again my ode today,
for those who need no aid,
where every point is evident
and every thought portrayed.
