Love Bites Contest Winner

The house they shared is haunted,
filled up with sad memories.
A ghost within there wanders,
though it's one you may not see.
It holds a shattered heart in hand,
softly crying out his name.
Just a broken playing piece,
in love's cruel twisted game.

They started out with so much hope,
everything was fresh and new.
Two hearts meant for each other,
as years passed their true love grew.
Until one night his head was turned,
a beauty beyond compare,
bewitched him, then one day
she turned to find he wasn't there.

Her anger, like a poison,
infested the very walls.
Her screams reverberated,
as she wandered through the halls.
Then she settled in a corner,
her life a dying ember.
The home's now dark,
who once lived there?
No one can quite remember.

Can one die from a broken heart?
Well, who can really say?
Yet, they never knew what killed her,
as her soul faded away.
If walls could talk they'd tell you,
it's happened throughout the ages.
A loveless life is incomplete,
like a book with empty pages.
