Black Widow

by Boogienights

Her partner she picks carefully,
with the strongest, she will mate.
I wonder if he'd turn and run,
if only he could know his fate.

They couple just as nature planned,
they're caught up in that mating dance.
She'll take from him just what she needs,
no love involved, no slow romance.

Although he senses she is full,
no danger now, the way is clear.
The widow's seeking sustenance,
he'll be devoured soon, I fear.

A mother must keep up her strength,
as near the ground, her eggs she lays.
Three hundred plus new spiders hatched
in thirty days, will make their way.

Beware the widow's bite, for she
is deadly to us all it seems.
My fear of spiders causes dread,
I see the widow in my dreams.

Some women of the human race,
get bad ideas with similar ends.
Many men will be web caught,
and find themselves devoured, friends.

Of all the spiders, you will find
Black Widows are a clever bunch.
Continuing their species and
They end up with a tasty lunch.
