Ghost Orchid

by June Sargent

3 Words In A Poem Contest Winner
Just like a mist, she'll disappear
and giant moth will shed a tear.
An orchid on endangered list,
she'll disappear just like a mist.

An animal needs sustenance,
which nature gives in abundance.
On orchid's nectar large moth feeds -
sustenance an animal needs.

Deforestation let's abort,
Avoiding horror of lives cut short.
To shelter God's supreme creation,
let's abort deforestation.

The Cayman Island Ghost Orchid is now on the endangered species list. Her haunting appearance in ironwood tree forests will be missed by the Giant Sphinx Moth in particular, who enjoys sipping her nectar. Deforestation to build more apartments and hotels has shrunk the orchid's habitat. Soon this orchid will indeed be a ghost.
