The Life of a Stray

by tempeste

The life of a.... Contest Winner
Thrown in a box 'n dumped in front of a shelter,
trapped in a plastic bag 'n tossed into a river.
Born in a dark alley, a valley full of tears, fears,
a life without joys, a stray not by choice.

My run-down appearance reveals my humble origins;
it condemns the ignorance of those who deserted my mom,
who didn't bother to sterilise her on time.

Today I call on you
for I seek a chance at redemption,
a better future, a brighter horizon.

So I beg, all you good-hearted folk reading this note
to give a dollar or two to this bloke
so he can feed and take care of me.
He believes in your generosity
and you can be sure of his honesty.

I thank you dearly
for your act of charity;
it will ensure me a place to live
where I can forget my past.

I'll have a mat on which to play,
a bowl of food each day,
a gentle hand that will hold me tight
'n a heartbeat to fall asleep upon at night.

A friend of mine takes care of stray cats .. Some weaker ones she adopts herself (or finds a home ), others, doing the rounds, she manages to feed everyday ..

.. but her pension is not enough ... so she sells items in the markets and has a charity pot on the table for anyone that wants to give a donation to help her maintain these homeless critters.

Pays one point and 2 member cents.
