The Life of a Press Secretary

by RodG

"Hello, reporters, gathered here
to hear this press release.
Our President has much to say.
Please, can your shouting cease?

I know the questions you will ask
and I will answer true.
I promise that I will not lie.
This is my pledge to you."

Though young, this lady's resume
impressed the President.
A Georgetown grad and Harvard Law
and time at Oxford spent.

On CNN and Fox News too
her talents earned some fame.
Spokesperson for the GOP
brought national acclaim.

Her life is not an easy one
as Donald Trump's her boss.
She must support what e'er he says.
He is her albatross.

The knife-edged queries, blunt attacks
she can't evade, ignore.
The Press won't budge; they want the facts,
minutiae and more.

She tries her best to justify
his actions, every tweet.
She is the fall guy in that room.
It's SHE who takes the heat.

The PS has a trying life,
and yet her role is clear:
She must defend the President,
earn trust and sound sincere.

Ever since I watched the TV series WEST WING and DESIGNATED SURVIVOR, I have developed a great respect for this position of Press Secretary for the White House.

The latest, Ms. McEnany, has only been on the job since April of this year.

Albatross. A seabird made famous in a poem by a Samuel Coleridge. It symbolizes a great burden that impedes action.

Minutiae. Precise details. Small or trifling matters.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
