80-word story about an observant old man.
A Surprising Answer
by LisaMay
Mr. Claridge sat beside his daughter, Tessa, in the doctor’s room. It was boringly drab, apart from the calendar showing an autumn scene. Tessa’s father, his hands folded quietly in his lap, looked around the room. Resignation marked his lined face. If I’ve got Alzheimer’s, so be it.
The doctor leaned forward. “I have questions to ask, Mr. Claridge, for cognitive function. What day is it today, please?”
“Have you forgotten? It’s your wife’s birthday! It’s marked on that calendar.”
