Double Sick
Flu of the Flu by Sally Law
Flash Fiction contest entry

Monday: Got up, then took my antidepressant with a double-strength espresso. After posting a blog on the dangers of masking, I headed to the office.

Tuesday: Same, except I ordered a regular coffee. I thought a Happy Meal might help. It didn't.

Wednesday: Same, except I bought new #2 pencils for my desk and sharpened them. I couldn't see if this made anyone smile.

Thursday: Same, except I tried the reheated office coffee and poured it in the Secret Santa Mug I got from Linda three Christmases ago. We didn't have a Christmas party last year, so the mug made me doubly depressed.

Friday: I finished my dissertation on "The Detrimental Effects of Masking on Society." My thesis was based on the lack of human interaction during a pandemic. I forgot to take my antidepressant and missed my call from the fellowship.

Saturday: I packed up, and moved to Texas.
