As skies take on a purplish hue
and sun begins to fade from view,
I rush back home - my work is done.
For some their day has just begun.
With sirens blaring through the night,
I put on jazz and it's alright.
That saxophone can touch my soul
and mend all cracks to make me whole.
Its calming notes that float on air
will cleanse my mind of all despair.
New Orleans jazz is full of groove
that energizes me to move.
Through irritating city noise
I found a way to keep my poise.
Transcending any circumstance,
jazz sets me free so I can dance.
