Forgive us, Mother Nature / for all the things we do.
I'm really sorry for the grief that we have put you through.
The clear cuts in your forests, / we promise to replant.
I'd like to turn the clock back, Mother, but you know we can't.
We're covering up your land / with asphalt and concrete.
I hate to lay the things that we call progress at your feet.
We're poisoning your oceans / with human filth and waste.
We know where all the blame for all this damage should be placed.
We've dammed up all your rivers. / There's turbines on your hills.
The things that we have done to you, dear Mother, gives me chills.
It's hard to find a place here / where you can breathe fresh air.
I'm sure that when you see all this, it's more than you can bear.
I know the population / is getting out of hand.
The human horde is now becoming too much for the land.
For natural resources, / we gouge your Earth today.
How long will you put up with this and finally make us pay?
I know that you have rules / that we have not obeyed
And know the time is coming when the piper must be paid.
I hesitate to ask you. / I know you might refuse,
But, Mother, do you have another planet we can use?
