Dear Frannie Fern,
Remember when I gave you that sweet name?
You came into my life and things have never been the same.
Responsible I was for you, I watered you each day.
Perhaps too much? Your leaves get browner each day I would say.
In partial sun and shade you sit, but still you don't look well.
I fear that you won't last too long, you're dying, I can tell.
Dear Frannie, please don't leave me, for you brighten up my day.
My favorite color makes me smile each time I look your way.
And you remind me of my mom whose green thumb and great will,
grew potted plants that always thrived, lined on her windowsill.
I think of her when I see you, she loved her greenery.
She would be sad to see you die, I feel the same you see.
For you bring life and color to these lonely days I live,
please Frannie Fern don't fade away, it's comfort that you give.
Though just a plant you have become, to me, just like a friend.
Please don't die, don't let this be the beginning of your end.
