When you left, I withered away...
like an un-watered flower bed.
Thirsting for life, burnt by the sun,
suddenly gone, without a word said...
You were, like a ghost fading at dawn.
Taking my heart with you of course,
leaving an empty hole within.
I tried to keep you here by force.
But you, with your careful words
and convincing smile broke free.
Saying that you would be back soon,
fooled again, by lies told to me.
When will I learn? I've hurt before,
because of you and all you've done.
You think that I'll be waiting but,
your strong hold on me I've outrun.
Not easy, when I see your face,
I long to run to you once more.
But I'll protect my shattered soul,
for you can't mend it like before.
Now, I stand where love goes to die,
and bury my memories of you.
You don't know what you have 'til it's gone,
perhaps you'll learn, what you lost too.
