Hate is a word too often heard
In these days of divisiveness whirl
Love is more needed today than ever before
Politics, religion and egotism are tainting our way
Love which once bound us together is draining away
Hate is stoked and flames are bursting forth
Started by selfish people with no care for others
Love is needed to control the tormenting fire
Love is thought to be a basic human emotion
It is an emotion that should rule our humanity
Demonstrated by affection, trust, and empathy
Traits that are much needed to survive
In this cockeyed world of ours,
If we neglect to love our fellow man,
Our souls will turn filthy and impure with
Moral and physical, rotting narcissism
Only prevention is to love our fellow man
Keep our actions and conversations
Clean of hateful exchanges, if we do not
Work at loving our neighbors as ourselves
We’ll lose the country we hold so dear
