When I see
The sunrise creep across the sky in pastel pinks
And shades of lavender, overlaid with gilt,
Before bursting into fire from the golden ball
Climbing steadily upward till it perches in place
To play peek-a-boo with the clouds,
Then I know . . . Eternal God is present.
When I see
Crystal drops of cleansing showers patter
to the earth,
Sheets of driving rain pounding submissive trees
As they bow before the Creator of all things,
Or snowflakes drifting down to cover
winter's dinginess
With powder of purest white,
Then I know . . . Eternal God is present.
When I see
Mountains crest so high they disappear
into the sky,
Oceans, swarming with fish, stretch endlessly
As they connect continent to continent
With never-ceasing waves,
Then I know . . . Eternal God is present.
When I see
The magnificence of the rainbow
That hugs the world in a giant arc
To proclaim His promise and serve as a reminder
That every word God said is trustworthy and true,
Then I know . . . Eternal God is present.
When I see the wondrous variety
And spectacular beauty of animals and birds
That inhabit our world,
And flora and fauna with color and brightness,
Adding cheer to each beholder,
Then I know . . . Eternal God is present.
When I see
The joy on faces of new parents
As they hold in their arms,
For the first time, the tiny babe
God fashioned so delicately in the mother's womb,
The evidence of their love made visible,
Then I know . . . Eternal God is present,
When I cannot see
The works of God
Because of the turmoil in my heart,
The problems that consume me,
My immeasurable pain or fear or sorrow,
Still I know . . . Eternal God is present.
