On May Eighteenth, Nineteen Seventy Four
We said I do, and forevermore
We said I will, and we do still
But sometimes it seemed it was all uphill
We also vowed for better or for worse
At times the worse seemed like a curse
The better hit some rough times here
Now the better's getting better each year
Not sure if we knew what "love" was about
We've earned that love, and now there's no doubt
We knew what for richer or poorer meant
After groceries and bills, our paychecks were spent
We proclaimed, in sickness and health
Didn't realize then, our health was our wealth
Next we vowed until death do us part
Seemed easy at first; it was only the start
Sometimes we forgot where these vows came from
God made it clear; one plus one equals one
Now older and wiser, we know marriage is hard
It'd been easy to walk, when our hearts were scarred
Forgiveness has been our saving grace
If none, satan takes our Savior's place
Truly important, is respect and to trust
Without them, I doubt there would still be an us
Our love for our children, has kept us going
And our love for each other, has kept on growing
Our marriage is Blessed by God up above
With faith and hope, but the greatest is love
We then were pronounced, husband and wife
I can't imagine me, without you in my life
