The Midnight Gambler by Terry Broxson

I had never heard of a lady pirate. She did dress the part. Some said she was a devil. But with a name like Betty? I think not. Did I want to seduce her? Maybe. What I wanted was her heart. I was in love. I drove out to the Pirate's Den Bar, where she was a barmaid. The radio played a Frankie Laine song about gambling for love in the moonlight. Tonight was the night for love. She had challenged me. If I could beat her at Texas Hold-Em, she would be mine forever and a day. I knew the art of poker was to make the opponent bet a hand they thought could not lose. She had four queens. I had four kings. A year later, I wished it was only three kings. She was the devil!
